What is Outlook for Mac?
Outlook for Mac is Microsoft’s email and calendar application for macOS. Its .olm data files can preserve an archive of mailbox information for later use.
How it works with Fortiana
An archived mailbox can still explain a current relationship: the terms a customer accepted, an exception discussed or a promise made before a handover. The .olm import brings the messages in that archive into context. Attachments present in the archive are optional, and the history ends with the material it contains.
What the import includes
- Messages from an .olm archive
- Message metadata
Optional: Attachments present in the archive.
Not included: A live Outlook connection; Calendar data unless separately supported.
How you can use it
For example, you can ask questions such as:
- What terms did the customer originally accept?
Return to the archived exchange where the terms and acceptance were recorded. - Was this exception agreed before the handover?
Look for the email discussing the exception and any reply confirming it. - What was the last response preserved in the archive?
Read the available correspondence without assuming the archive includes messages sent after it was created.
Prepare your export
- Locate the .olm archive. Prepare the Outlook for Mac archive containing the correspondence you want to import.
- Check the date and contents. Review the period represented by the archive and whether relevant attachments are present.
- Plan for later correspondence. Use a newer export to add later mail. The archive import is separate from the native Outlook connector.
An import captures the history present in the export. Later changes require a newer export; they are not added automatically.
